Virological investigation of canine parvovirus infection in dogs with gastroenteritis in Burdur district

In this study, a virological investigation was performed Burdur district on canine parvovirus (CPV) infection progressing with dehydration, severe hemorrhagic enteritis, vomiting and high fever. For this purpose, feces samples were collected from 117 puppies that are owned or kept in Burdur animal shelter, having different race and gender aged between 1-11 months old and not vaccinated against the so-called infection. As a result of the evaluation of the samples using double antibody sandwich ELISA (DAS-ELISA) method, canine parvovirus antigen was detected in 3.42 % (4/117). Distribution of antigen positivity rates according to gender were found as 8.82 % (3/34), 1.20 % (1/83) respectively for males and females. This study proved the prevalence of CPV infection in the least around Burdur district.
