Foreign direct investment inflows to EMEs

Özet The aim of this chapter is to analyze the net foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows to emerging market economies (EMEs) on a country and regional basis for the period of 2000 and 2015 by using the World Bank data. The key findings can be summarized as: (i) the FDI inflows to EMEs (current US$) have showed a steady increase; (ii) Asian region has gained increasing importance in terms of FDI inflows (current US$), while the importance of both European and Latin American regions has decreased; (iii) Europe region was more adversely affected by the 2008 global crisis when compared to Asian and Latin American regions; (iv) China in Asia, Brazil in Latin America, and Russia in Europe region have a dominate role in attracting the FDI inflows (current US$); (v) the share of EMEs in World FDI inflows has showed an increasing trend over the whole period; (vi) when economic size is taken into consideration, Chile in Latin America, Indonesia in Asia, and Turkey in Europe region have gained more importance in recent years in term of attracting the FDI inflows (as % of GDP).
