Özet
The Head Start program is one of the most extensively studied early childhood interventions, with substantial research focusing on its long-term effects on children's academic achievement, social development, and health outcomes. Understanding bibliometric trends in this field provides insight into key contributors, research models and thematic focus areas. Bibliometric analysis is a quantitative method used to evaluate academic literature by examining publication patterns, citation structures, and the intellectual influence of authors, institutions, and journals in a given research area. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of research on the Head Start program, identifying influential studies, key authors, institutional contributions, and thematic trends. For this purpose, a total of 952 studies were accessed from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. VOSviewer was used for bibliometric analysis. In the study, the most cited authors and their publications, the distribution of studies by years, universities and publication sources, as well as co-authorship and co-citation networks were examined. Keyword analysis was also conducted to identify common research themes. The findings revealed that research on Head Start has primarily focused on the programme’s impact on education, children's academic success, social development, and health. Key institutions and authors contributing to the field were identified. The analysis also highlighted differences in programme effectiveness based on political variations across states. This study underscores the importance of early childhood interventions in improving educational outcomes and overall quality of life, particularly for disadvantaged children. The bibliometric approach provides a comprehensive overview of research trends and gaps, emphasizing the need for further studies on policy-related influences on programme effectiveness.
