Özet
BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to examine the anatomical measurements of nasopalatine canal (NPC) and buccal cortical bone with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) according to tooth conditions in the anterior region and to evaluate the relationship of these variables with gender, age and nasopalatine canal shape. METHODS: CBCT of 200 patients were included in the study. The patients examined were classified as individuals with anterior region 11-21 teeth (Class-1), one with 11-21 teeth (Class-2), no 11-21 teeth (Class-3) and total edentulous (Class-4). In 200 CBCT examinations, nasopalatine canal shape (cylindrical, funnel, hourglass, banana and cone), diameter (nasopalatine foramen (D5) and incisive foramen diameter (D7)) and nasopalatine canal length (D6); The measurements of the buccal cortical bone (D1, the apical width of the buccal bone; D2, the mid-ridge width of the buccal bone; D3, the crestal width of the buccal bone; D4, the length of the buccal bone) were measured. Four patient groups were also compared according to gender and age groups with nasopalatine canal and buccal cortical bone measurements. Analysis of data; One-Way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, Chi-Square, Mann-Whitney U and independent sample t-test were performed using SPSS program. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference between dental status and age groups and nasopalatine canal shapes, and the funnel canal shape was observed at the highest rate in both parameters. (p=0.001, p<0.001) When the relations of the measurements with the tooth condition are evaluated; a significant difference was found between the lengths of D3, D4 and D6, decreasing from toothed state to toothless state. (p<0.001, p<0.001, p=0.024) D1, D5 and D6 distances were higher in men than in women (p=0.036, p=0.017, p=0.001), but there wasn’t difference according to age groups. The distances were significantly higher in banana for D3, in cylindrical for D5 and in funnel shape for D7 (p=0.016, p<0.001, p<0.001). CONCLUSION: Morphological features and variations of NPC should be considered with an accurate radiological evaluation in order to prevent complications and increase the success of surgical procedures in local anesthesia, maxillary surgery and implant surgery applications.
