Özet
Background: The La Trobe Communication Questionnaire (LCQ) is one of the common self-assessment tools for assessing social and pragmatic communication in healthy adults (Douglas et al. 2000; Frith et al. 2014) and adults with traumatic brain injury (TBI) (Douglas et al. 2007). An adaptation study to different languages has previously been conducted based on the original LCQ, confirming its reliability and validity for use with patients with TBI. Aims: The aim of this study was to create a Turkish adaptation of two forms of the LCQ scale: 1) LCQ-S, self (patient) form, 2) LCQ-O, other (relative) form and to investigate the reliability and validity properties of the LCQ-TR scale in Turkish-speaking patients with TBI and their relatives. Methods & procedures: A cross-sectional design was used. Fourty patients with TBI between the ages of 18–65 and 40 patient relatives between the ages of 25–61 were included in the study. The construct and criterion validity analyses for LCQ-TR were completed. Test-retest reliability and internal consistency coefficients are reported for reliability. Outcomes & results: The internal consistency coefficient of the LCQ-TR was found to be.87 for patients and their relatives. Test-retest coefficients were found to be.93 for LCQ-S-TR and.89 for LCQ-O-TR. The item-total correlation analysis, conducted to assess construct validity, revealed values ranging between.393 and.748 for LCQ-S-TR items and between.411 and.804 for LCQ-O-TR items. Correlation analyses between LCQ-S-TR and LCQ-O-TR, as well as their sub-dimensions, demonstrated statistically significant positive results (p < 0.05). In the criterion validity analysis, LCQ-S-TR was able to discriminate based on severity groups with U = 21.50. LCQ-O-TR did not distinguish between any groups. Conclusions: The LCQ-TR scale is a reliable and valid assessment tool that can be used in Turkish-speaking patients with TBI.
