Özet
Background: The aim of this study is to investigate the surface roughness and colour changes of different types of acrylic resins after soaking in different liquids and after cleaning with denture cleaning tablet. Methods: Disc-shaped specimens were obtained from three different acrylic resins [heat polymerised (Meliodent), autopolymerised (Meliodent), microwave polymerised (Acron MC)] (n=20, each group). Each acrylic resin was divided into 4 subgroups (distilled water, tea, coffee, cola) according to the type of liquids (n=5) and kept in the respective solutions for 48 hours. Afterwards, the specimens in each subgroup were kept in denture cleaning tablet solution (Corega) for 64 hours. Surface roughness and colour values of the samples were measured at the beginning, 48 hours and 64 hours. Surface roughness and colour change values were examined by three-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The relationship between roughness and colour change values was examined by Pearson's correlation coefficient (p<0.05). Results: Surface roughness values were affected by liquid type (p=0.008), method (p<0.001), time (p<0.001) and method*time interaction (p<0.001). Colour change values were affected by liquid type (p=0.012), method (p<0.001), time (p<0.001) and liquid type*method*time interaction (p=0.001). There was no significant correlation between roughness and colour change values of all groups. Conclusion: Coloration of acrylic base materials after soaking in cola and tea was found to be higher than coffee. The colour change after soaking in the denture cleaning solution is especially high in coffee. The highest roughness values were observed in autopolymerised acrylic resins. Alkaline peroxide cleaning solution can be recommended for chemical cleaning of acrylic resins, but it should be taken into consideration that it may increase surface roughness in base materials.
