Özet
The present study was conducted to reveal the pomological diversity of 74 F1 progenies obtained from ‘Chandler’ × ‘Sutyemez 1’ and their parents in 2019, 2020, and 2021. To reveal the diversity, 27 different pomological traits were analyzed. Nut weight, kernel weight, and kernel percentage for all walnut genotypes varied between 3.32–32.66 g, 1.77–17.83 g, and 35.35–67.19%, respectively. These values were calculated as 10.99 g, 5.19 g, and 47.20% for ‘Chandler’, and 28.42 g, 13.68 g, and 48.20% for ‘Sutyemez 1’, respectively. Among the F1 progenies, ‘CS57’ with 20.08 g was the highest genotype after ‘Sutyemez 1’. In terms of kernel weight, the highest value after ‘Sutyemez 1’ was determined in ‘CS61’ with 9.58 g. This F1 progeny also showed superior traits in terms of nut weight (18.15 g), kernel percentage (52.69%), and shell thickness (1.13 mm). A broad variation was also observed in other pomological traits. A correlation analysis was performed to indicate significant negative and positive correlations among different pomological traits. In Principal Component Analysis (PCA), the first seven principal components accounted for 72.51% of the total variation. The analyzed walnut accessions were divided into four main clusters using a distance matrix. The dendrogram showed parents distinctively separated from each other. Cluster I, which included ‘Chandler’, contained the highest number of progenies. Concordantly, more F1 progenies displayed a close relationship with the female parent (‘Chandler’). The findings are a significant resource for understanding the importance of parental selection and pomological gene flow for future crossbreeding studies on walnuts. In addition, F1 progenies with outstanding pomological traits obtained from the present study resulted in a valuable gene pool for walnut breeding programs.
